Marsha L. Getter, an independently licensed clinical social worker has been a practicing mental health professional for over forty years and, in private practice since 1983. She has extensive experience working with individuals from many different cultures and with members of the LGBTQ community. In addition, she has worked as a certified school psychologist and school social worker in a variety of educational settings from preschool to college.
Although eclectic in her practice of psychotherapy, Marsha's work is strongly influenced by her training with the Gestalt Institute of New England. She believes that therapy is about the relationship between the client and the therapist, and about getting clients in touch with their capacity and strength to solve problems and enhance their relationship with themselves and with others.
Marsha is an experienced therapist who has dealt with a wide range of personal, couple, family, parenting, and co-parenting issues. In addition, she has been appointed to the Massachusetts Family Courts as a Guardian ad Litem, and is a trained mediator and parent coordinator who works with couples in mediating the development and implementation of parenting plans. Marsha has a particular interest in working with those whose lives have been impacted by special educational needs and developmental issues, substance abuse, and trauma.
